Elena Theodosiou and Lynne Glasgow visiting Kenya and Tanzania

November 16, 2018 According to AAC's Consultants

Senior Safari Consultants Elena Theodosiou and Lynne Glasgow are off on an adventure through Kenya and Tanzania, visiting andBeyond’s portfolio of camps and lodges. Follow them on their journey as they explore these beautiful properties.

Nov 4 – Nairobi, Kenya

We departed JFK on Kenya Airway’s brand new direct service to Nairobi. It was fantastic to not route through Europe and lose time with a long layover. We know our clients will enjoy it. Upon arriving we were met by our team and whisked off to the House of Waine, where we had a chance to relax and are ready to start our safari adventure tomorrow.

Nov 5 – Maasai Mara, Kenya

Today we boarded our scheduled flight to the Maasai Mara (with two female pilots at the controls). Upon landing we were greeted with a lively welcome from Kichwa Tembo and some nice animals enroute to camp. A highlight was having tea with a friendly warthog and her babies (page down to see the photo).

Nov 6 – Maasai Mara, Kenya

Greetings from the Maasai Mara! It has been a glorious morning with a sublime sunrise and fantastic game viewing. Last night was spent at Kitchwa Tembo, which was wonderful. We transferred to AndBeyond’s premier camp, Bateleur Camp, which was absolutely wonderful.

This afternoon we had the perfect game drive and sundowners!

Nov 7 – Flying from Maasai Mara to Tanzania’s Serengeti

After a delicious breakfast we flew from Kenya into Tanzania via the border crossing, to the seasonal Serengeti Under Canvas camp in the north. Looking forward to our afternoon game drive!

Nov 8 – Northern Serengeti

Greetings from the northern Serengeti! We spent last evening at the seasonal Serengeti Under Canvas camp and had a wonderful dinner and restful sleep. There is nothing better than going to bed with the sounds of nature to lull you to sleep.

The migration of the wildebeest is in the area and provided fantastic game viewing opportunities. In addition to the vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, we thoroughly enjoyed all the lion sightings with huge males and their impressive manes.

The camp staff threw us a lovely farewell from Serengeti Under Canvas, before heading off to the Grumeti River Camp.

Nov 9 – Western Serengeti

This morning was all about lions as our base from the andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp!

Nov 10 –Fly to Lake Manyara

After an amazing overnight at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge we have a lovely drive through the Park.

Nov 11 – Ngorongoro Crater

And today arrived at the gorgeous Ngorongoro Crater Lodge – look at the stunning views!

What a fun morning in the Crater. Breakfast on the crater floor, wonderful wildlife and birds, then back to our rooms for a lovely bubble bath!

Ngorongoro Bathtub with a view!

Nov 12 – Lake Eyasi

The last two days have been a complete contrast to our safari, as we spent time with the children at Taloma Primary in Karatu, and then headed into the Lake Eyasi region. Here we learned about growing onions, and the stark reality of very rural life. The kids don’t often get a meal at school. $55 a day will feed the whole school – that’s over 400 kids (and their SEVEN teachers)… watch this space.

The primary school and medical dispensary are dependent upon donations. We are determined to make a difference here!

Nov 13 – Ziwani Lodge – Lake Eyasi

Ziwani Lodge at Lake Eyasi is a fantastic oasis at which to unwind after a day learning about rural life in Tanzania. And knowing we head home tomorrow.
